This is a collection of audio recordings of me working various DXpeditions, new countries/slots and other interesting stations. The quality of these recordings varies, I started off just taking the audio directly out of the radio and saving it but for a while now I’ve been normalising the volume. In most of them my audio sounds quite harsh, that’s because when I’m trying to break a pileup, I use my Heil headset with the HC4 insert which is tailored for DX working. You generally won’t hear my initial call because that’s made using the voice keyer within the TS-590 and that doesn’t get saved.
How the recordings are made
The Kenwood TS-590 with the voice module is continually recording the last 30 seconds of audio. After a QSO I hit the button which stores these 30 seconds and then I play the audio from the radio into the Audacity software running on my computer. I trim each recording to length then normalise the levels so that the whole thing is nice and loud. Finally I add a short ‘fade out’ at the end and export the audio to an mp3 file.
