Review – January

I’m going to see if I can write a review of each month with statistics and feelings.  It may end up just being statistics without the feelings but I’ll see how I can do.

If I’m totally honest, I started the project with a little trepidation.  Although some people have a lot of time to use the radio, I really don’t.  I’ve already blogged to say when I get a chance to operate so I won’t repeat it all here but suffice it to say, it’s been a struggle a couple of times.

The closest I’ve been to failing was on day #5 when I didn’t get home until 23:40 in the evening and managed to get a quick QSO in within a few minutes.  This is going to be a regular situation because I’m now a member of the Hadley Wood CG and I head off to the meetings straight from work so I’m going to have to try and have a QSO before I go to work in the mornings or leave a little earlier to get home with slightly more than a 20 minute buffer.  However I’m sure that I’ll be OK.

So, the statistics for the month.

QSOs made: 205
QSL cards sent: 94
DXCC entities worked: 34
New DXCC entities worked: 3
Squares worked on 144MHz: 13

You’ll notice a big difference in the number of stations worked compared to the number of QSOs, that’s because some of the QSOs were during contests and I won’t necessarily QSL all contest QSOs.  Every callsign that has been mentioned in this blog has been sent a QSL card via the bureau though unless their entry on qrz.com specifically states that they won’t QSL.

I’m included squares worked on 144MHz because I’m still a VHFer at heart and I like to keep an annual count of how I’m doing on 2m.  It’s been quiet on VHF so far this year but it’s still very early.

My gut feeling is that it’s all going well, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself so far and I hope people have enjoyed following my process.  If you’ve been reading the entries so far, why not hit the “leave a comment” link and let me know.  It’s always good to get feedback and I appreciate the comments I’ve had already.

  1. In case I haven’t already made it clear, I think this is a great project! (Even if the blog’s a bit OTT 🙂 )
