Live VHF, UHF and Microwave Beacon Spots

For those who are interested in tracking VHF, UHF and Microwave beacon spots, I’ve built a new web page which takes a live feed from my DX Cluster of beacon spots (that is, callsigns ending in /B) and presents them in a nice, easy to use display.

There’s a link in the main navigation page of this site called Live Beacons, or you can access it directly at https://qso365.co.uk/beacons.

This is what it looks like on a desktop browser with the 50 MHz (6m) band selected. It will always show the most recent 100 spots per band, with the number of spots on the current band showing in the top right corner of the main display. In the footer, it shows the most recent update time, and the time and band of the most recent spot. This is so that if you’re watching one band and a spot comes in on another, you can see this straight away and switch if needed.

The source column on the right shows whether a spot came via the RBN skimmer or was entered manually by a user. Different bands can be selected by clicking on the left side. Naturally, some bands will have more spots than others. There is no need to refresh manually, you can leave it on any band and new spots will show within a minute or so of them being posted.

It also works on a mobile browser. The band selector is moved to the top and the main display is just tidied up to take less space.

The spots are only taken from my own DX Cluster. I have a job running on the server which monitors the feed for /B callsigns and generates the web site automatically.

I’ve had this running for a day or so now and it all appears to be working as expected but if you notice anything odd, or if there are any changes you think I could make, please either comment on this post or contact me using the details on my QRZ page.
